No Surprise: Train Stabbing Suspect’s Family Tree Basically Just A Police Report

CHARLOTTE, NC — Court documents show that accused light rail stabber Decarlos Brown Jr. didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. In fact, crime in the Brown household seems to be less of a shock and more of a family business model.
- Big brother Stacey: Serving 27–36 years for gunning down a 65-year-old man during a robbery.
- Sister Tracey: Rap sheet includes shoplifting, larceny, vehicle theft, and a creative streak for resisting arrest.
- Dad, Decarlos Sr.: Allegedly dabbled in breaking and entering, larceny, and even bringing weapons onto a college campus—because PTA meetings just weren’t edgy enough.
With that résumé, observers say it was only a matter of time before Brown Jr. landed his own headline. Prosecutors allege he stabbed 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska to death on a Charlotte train in August, caught on camera walking off the car “with blood dripping from him.”
