Powell Says He Will Consider Lowering Rates If You Can Guess What Number He’s Thinking

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell announced Friday that interest rate cuts are officially “on the table” — but only if Wall Street correctly guesses the number he’s thinking of between 1 and 10.

“This is how serious monetary policy works,” Powell said, holding up his fingers behind his back. “If the market guesses right, we’ll cut rates by 25 basis points. If it guesses wrong, we’ll raise them just to prove a point.”

Sources inside the Fed confirmed Powell has been giggling for hours and shouting, “Nope! Wrong again!” every time analysts publish predictions. One Goldman Sachs economist claimed the number was 7, but Powell smirked and scribbled “not even close” on a sticky note before tossing it into a juice box.

Investors remain on edge. The Dow dropped 300 points after Powell announced there would be “bonus points” if they could also guess his favorite dinosaur.
